Taking Care of Your Dog in the Field
It is important to take care of your hunting dogs even while you are out in the field. Be sure to pause often to allow it to rest. Though these dogs rarely companion, if they begin to lag behind you or begin to let their tail drop, it is a sure signal that they are tired. In addition, check you dog’s paw pads often for debris, as these can cause irritation and cuts if they are allowed to remain. Further, carry nail clippers with you and check often for broken nails. A break in a toenail can become a large distraction to your dog if it is not taken care of in due time. Further, be sure to carry plenty of water for your dog. Let your dog cool off in puddles and creeks if necessary. If you are working in heavy dust or tall grass, be sure to flush out your dog’s eyes with extra water.
