An Entire Book is Devoted to Understanding the Patent Application

My brother is reading a book about the patent application. I had no idea that an entire book could be devoted to the topic. I understood that it was more than a simple two page form to fill out, but I thought the process must be a little overboard if an entire book was devoted to explaining it. My brother was hoping to file the paperwork himself to save some money. He has spent so much money on the invention that he has little left to protect his work. I suggested that he see if there was any free legal advice online for this type of situation.
