Plagiarism

It is easier now than ever for students to cheat when writing papers because of the vast quantity of content found on the web. Anyone can use a godaddy coupon to buy a domain and put content on their site whether it belongs to them or not. Plagiarism runs rampid in our universities despite efforts of academic integrity committees and the like.  Many universities and professors have students turn their terms papers into sites that scan papers for plagiarism such as turnitin.com, but due to the abundance of content to be found online, most plagiarism is left undetected.  Furthermore, with the obsession that some professors are exhibiting in their fight against plagiarism, innocent similarities in voice, content, and subject matter can land any rule-abiding student into the hot seat.  So what’s the answer and how do we prevent all this cheating.  In the end, I think that students that cheat will get their comeuppance at some point when they flounder and fail in the workplace after college.  Those who try and therefore learn the most, however, will reap the benefits in the long run.
